Sunglasses Guide: What Suits My Face?

Summer is finally here which means it's time to go shopping for your new frames! Sunglasses are the most popular summer fashion accessory that provides vital protection for your eyes as well as finishing off the beach look.

However, many fashion expert express the importance of wearing sunglasses with a style that will suit your face shape, but what does this really mean?

That's why I have come up with this simple guide to help. I have broken down so that you can look stylish and feel comfortable in your new shades. First find out what shape face you have and then follow the simple tips to finding your perfect sunglasses.

Heart

A heart shape face consists of a wide forehead, high cheek bones and a narrow jaw line and chin.

For this shape, choose a pair of sunglasses that add a contrast to your face shape. Girls should go for cat-eyed frames and guys should try wrap-around frames. Wayfarer or rectangular frames are other options that will also look great. Try to stick to smaller frames and avoid oversized styles.

Square

A broad, deep forehead, wide jaw line and a square chin.

Aviators are a great style for this face shape as well as round or oval frames. Try oversized glasses with a thin frame width for an ultra-glam look that will soften the face. Avoid angular and square styles or anything with heavy brow detailing.

Round

A soft shape with a wide forehead and a rounded chin.

Square and angular frames that are wider than your face look stunning on this face shape. Guys should stick to dark colours as this will give your face more definition. Try to avoid round sunglasses and small frames as these will make your face look rounder.

Diamond

A shape that is narrow at the eye and jaw line with high and dramatic cheekbones.

The rarest of the face shapes. A retro pair of sunglasses really flatter this shape, try some cat-eyed frames. Guys should wear wrap-around frames as these will balance the face. You should also consider rimless and semi-rimless frames for this shape. Make sure you avoid narrow frames that draw attention to the narrow eye line.

Oblong

A shape that is longer than it is wide with a long straight cheek line.

For this shape always go for styles that will give your face width. Aviators are the best choice here. Oval or oversized also work really well for this shape, just make sure that the outer corners run parallel with your temples and cheek bones. Try not to buy narrow rectangular frames and short frames that will accentuate the length of your face.

Oval

A shape that is well balanced and softly rounded with the forehead being slightly wider than the jaw.

If you have this face shape consider yourself very lucky because pretty much anything works with an oval face. With your choices being wide and varied you can pick and choose at leisure. The only thing to be wary of is wearing narrow frames that draw too much attention to the narrow eye line.

Remember this is just a guide and not an instruction manual. If you can, always try on a pair of sunglasses before buying them just to check that they will compliment the face.

Happy shopping and have a great summer!
